Boating and Fishing
Visit the Marina Store for all of your boating or fishing needs. A very picturesque picnic area with swimming, beaches, bar-b-que grills and tables are available for day use. A well stocked store, flush toilets and hot showers, and a playground are nearby to supply all of your needs. The facility also offers ice!

Complete boating facilities are featured including boat with motor rentals, concrete boat launching ramp buoy moorings, and gas and oil. Open land boat and trailer storage space is also available.
Fishing for the fighting rainbow trout is excellent and Small and Large Mouth Black Bass, Brown Trout and Kokonee are abundant. Spend the day fishing or enjoy the water sports which include swimming, boating and water skiing. Relax in peace in the beautiful surroundings or take a hike through a wooded forest.
Weather at Scotts Flat
Winters are mild, although we do occasionally get some snow. This makes our location ideal for visiting Nevada County for our many winter festivals and fairs. Winter brings Cornish Christmas to Grass Valley and Victorian Christmas to Nevada City.
Spring with it’s wild flowers and new baby animals is pleasure to experience, and Scotts Flat Lake is not to be beat for enjoying this new emergence!
Beautiful fall colors and gorgeous scenery make this a truly four-season vacation land!
Mountain biking/ Running/ Hiking:
- Campground Trail- 1 mile easy walk following the lake from Gate 1 to Gate 2
- Scotts Flat Trail- 4.5 Mile trail from Hwy 20 to Scotts Flat Lake-intermediate
- Pioneer trail- From Scotts Flat road / HWY 20, 26 Miles of trails through the Tahoe national forest- Easy- advanced
Youth Sailing Program– Scotts Flat is fortunate to be the home to the Gold Country Yacht club whom offer a program for youth to learn the ins and outs of sailing.
Kayaking and SUP– Local outdoor store Mountain Recreation offers a variety of SUP and Kayak rentals as well as lessons for beginners. www.mtnrec.com
Annual events–
NID Summer Watershed Camp- Join us for a fun day exploring and learning about our local watershed on beautiful Scotts Flat Lake. Open for kids ages 8-10 limited space and dates.
No Motor Day– Bring the Canoe, Kayak, SUP or sail boat and enjoy a day on the lake without all the noise or waves. Our annual no motor day always draws a crowd. Support the local boy scouts by grabbing a hot dog and relaxing on the lake. There will be Paddle Board demos and sail boat rides throughout the day.
Barbara Schmidt Millar Triathlon– Every year at Scotts Flat lake, Cascade Shores is the stage for a women only sprint triathlon. This event benefits the Barbara Schmidt Millar Memorial fund at the Women’s Imaging Center of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital (SNMH). Participate or bring a Cow bell and support this great and inspiring event. www.bsmtri.org
