NID Supports the Annual Nevada County STEAM Expo

April 4, 2019

NID will once again send a team of employees to help judge student science projects during the Nevada County STEAM Expo on Friday, April 5. The District, which is a sponsor of the event, also will have an information table with fun activities in the career exploration wing on Saturday when the event will be open to the public.

The 4th Annual STEAM Expo will be held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley. The purpose of the annual expo is to stimulate an active interest in science, technology, engineering, art and math among students, and promote local career opportunities in these fields.

On Saturday, NID is among several local agencies and organizations to be showcased in the “Career Exploration Wing” at the Northern Mines building that will highlight employment and internship opportunities for our local youth. Expo events, including hands-on activities, demonstrations and interactive exhibits, are open to the public from 9am – 3pm.

Be sure to visit the NID table. Human Resources Manager Jana Kolakowski and Watershed Program staff will be there with hands-on activities for the public to explore that model the water system and a power supply, and also a centrifuge that replicates the mechanical separation process that is being pilot tested to remove mercury from sediment collected in a local reservoir.

This is a program of the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools. Learn more about the STEAM Expo here.
