NID schedules two community meetings to discuss proposed water rate changes

March 11, 2019

The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) has scheduled two community meetings so customers in Nevada and Placer counties can learn more about proposed water rate changes.

The District is proposing rate increases to meet its fiscal responsibilities and ensure its ability to deliver on a 100-year-old commitment of water to the community.

The first public meeting will be held on March 19 at 5:30 PM at NID’s business office, 1036 West Main Street in Grass Valley. The second meeting is scheduled for the evening of March 21 in Placer County, location to be determined.

Last week, NID mailed letters to customers that detailed the proposed rate changes and announced a 45-day process period during which customers can comment and file a written protest.

The changes are based on findings of the Water Rate Cost of Service Study, which determined a rate structure to best serve the needs of the District and services it provides, as well as recommendations made by the Water Rates Committee, a 10-member customer-based stakeholder engagement group.

More information is available at NID also has prepared for increased customer service inquiries and has staff at-the-ready for customer calls and emails during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 530-273-6185 or email
