Dec. 12 meeting wrap: Scott Miller named Board President; 2019 budget approved

December 13, 2018

Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Directors elected officers for 2018 and adopted the 2019 budget during its Dec. 12 meeting. Present were Nick Wilcox and Scott Miller, as well as newly inducted Directors Ricki Heck, Chris Bierwagen and Laura Peters.

Directors elected new officers for 2018: Miller will serve as Board president, and Heck will serve as vice president. Miller, a physician with a practice near Lake of the Pines, has served on the NID board since 2000. Heck brings an extensive business background and experience as a Nevada County Planning Commissioner to her new position representing Division I.

Directors approved the District’s 2019 budget of $98.9 million. “Similar to other water providers, the District faces climate changes as well as legislative and regulatory challenges. However, financial and operating efficiencies continue to be improved. Sound reserve policies, necessary rate adjustments, human resource management and practical spending all contribute to the District’s strong cash reserves.” Read the budget here.

The General Manager reported District water storage is 176,415 acre-feet, which is 65 percent of maximum capacity or 114 percent of average for the water year. Precipitation (as measured at Bowman Lake) is 69 percent of average at 12.37 inches.

The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 at the NID Business Center located at 1036 West Main Street, Grass Valley. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
