NID Announces Staff Appointments
Malberg, Powell Join Management TeamGRASS VALLEY - The Nevada Irrigation District has announced the appointments of two new members of the district management team.
Jim Malberg began work Apr. 30 as the district’s new finance manager, succeeding Marie Owens, who retired. As the district’s chief financial executive, he will oversee a combined annual budget of $61.5 million.
Malberg comes to the district from Stockton where he served as a project manager for Willdom Financial Services, including service for the past 16 months as interim chief financial officer for the Central Basin Municipal Water District. He has also worked with the cities of Stockton and Brentwood and the Elk Grove Water District.
He holds bachelor’s and masters’ degrees from California State University, Stanislaus and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Brian Powell was appointed Apr. 23 as NID maintenance manager, overseeing NID’s largest department, with more than 50 employees.
Powell, a Grass Valley resident and registered civil engineer, first joined NID’s Engineering Dept. in 1997 and was first promoted to
maintenance manager in 2005. He held the post for two years before leaving for employment in the private sector.
He rejoined NID in 2008 and has served as project manager for the $41 million Banner Cascade Pipeline Project, which is now nearing completion. He returns to the helm of the Maintenance Dept. following the departure of John Kirk, who accepted a position with PG&E.
Based in Grass Valley, NID employs 170 and supplies irrigation water and treated drinking water to 24,000 customers in Nevada, Placer and Yuba counties.
